LEV COSHH TESTING
What
is the definition of an LEV?
A system is classed as Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV)
if it is used to control, capture or contain airborne releases
on, at, or close to the point of emission and then convey
them to a point where they can be collected or released.
An effective LEV system should be well designed and constructed,
properly used and maintained in good condition, with regular
inspections.

What are the legal requirements?
The control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
Regulation 7, requires that exposure of employees to substances
hazardous to health be prevented or if this is not practicable,
adequately controlled.
Regulation 9 requires all control measures to be properly
maintained and regularly examined and tested. The employer
should ensure all control measures are maintained in an
efficient state, good working order and in good repair.
To comply with Regulation 7 of COSHH, LEV systems should
be thoroughly examined and tested at least every 14 months
and a suitable record of the examination and test results
should be kept for at least 5 years from the date on which
it was made. |
