Tecomak Environmental Services is now able to supply a much wider range of biological decontamination devices from the Devea Phileas® range. One of these new additions is the Phileas® 15; here we explain some of the advantages it offers over other products.

Its Versatility

The Phileas® 15 has a strong, stable base and is highly mobile; it is also battery-operated. This makes it ideal for all areas which need to be disinfected but don’t have their own power supply, such as all forms of public transport, as well as ambulances and aircraft.

It is also perfectly suited to many agricultural applications, including tanks and silos, and is also particularly popular in the food and drink industries.

Its fully charged battery will operate for two hours, which is more than enough for a full operating cycle before any further charging is required. The unit is also very quiet (even during the middle of an operating cycle) and doesn’t require much ongoing maintenance.

Its Safety Features

Like other biological decontamination devices in the Devea Phileas® range, the 15 has a number of inbuilt safety features which protect the operator. There’s no reason for the user to be physically present in the area being disinfected, as the unit is fully programmable via the MyPhileas app (which can be connected to a tablet via Bluetooth).

You can also specify the areas to be targeted, and the total volumes, into the app programme. If its 2-litre biocide tank is ever empty, then the message ‘liquid inlet error’ will flash up on the screen.

Another reason why the Phileas® 15 is so hazard-free is due to its method of decontamination. It sprays hydrogen peroxide – in the form of a dry fog – uniformly throughout the target area so nowhere is missed. Once the cycle is complete, the only chemicals remaining are oxygen molecules and water, neither of which pose any risk to humans.

And there won’t be any need for any further manual cleaning afterwards. One alternative method of decontamination, formaldehyde, leaves a residue of white powders which has to be cleaned away. This not only increases the time of the operating cycle but also poses a health risk to the operators as formaldehyde has been found to contain carcinogens.

Its Effectiveness

Not only is the Phileas® 15 decontamination unit versatile and safe, it’s also highly effective. Depending on your hygiene requirements, it can be programmed to produce either a four-, five- or six-log reduction in the reduction of harmful micro-organisms.

It also meets all the relevant safety standards. It’s been certified as complying with the independent marketing authorisation standard AMM FR-2019-071 and fulfils the requirements of the BS EN 17272:2020 safety standard.

It’s Fully Recordable

Even though the whole process can be operated at the touch of a button, you can still keep full records of what has been disinfected and when. Once the operating cycle is complete, you can download a full diffusion report from the app. This means you have a complete audit trail and complies with the British Good Manufacturing Practice Annex 11 and the equivalent American regulation (Title 21 CFR Part 11).
