At Tecomak Environmental Services, we offer a wide range of services to schools and colleges as well as to the scientific, healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. In many ways, now is an ideal time to have your local exhaust ventilations systems checked when your students (and most of your staff) are away for the summer holidays; here we explain why, and outline some of the key LEV services we can offer.
The Key Advantages
There are a number of advantages of having your LEV checked during the months of July or August. These include:
Less disruption to lessons – all schools, whether in the state sector or private/independent ones, have some form of summer break. However, at Tecomak we work all the year round so can easily fit our maintenance schedules into your holidays.
Having this done during the summer break means you don’t have to factor in any disruption to lessons, so classes don’t have to be moved to vacant classrooms while any testing is going on. The same applies to LEV maintenance work at other times of the year – for instance either the Easter or the Christmas holidays.
And bear in mind that many LEV tests are annual, so once we have scheduled your visit in during the holidays we can return at the same time the following year. If there is a problem in the interim period, then we can always make an emergency visit.
Greater safety – it’s also much easier to carry out the various safety checks when there are fewer people around (pupils or staff) as it reduces the chances of any accidents.
Schools are also often the targets for thieves and vandals during the holidays; having responsible adults on site can help deter these would-be criminals. And all our engineers who visit schools, colleges or universities are fully DBS-checked.
Regulatory compliance – LEV testing is required by law, under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health 2002 regulations. Failure to carry the tests out could put staff and pupils at greater risk (for example, from noxious fumes); and the school or college could be prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive and face substantial fines (not to mention suffer considerable reputational damage).
LEV Services from Tecomak Environmental Services
At Tecomak we have been testing LEV systems for nearly 50 years and offer a full range of services for whatever pieces of equipment (or classrooms) require their use. These could include:
Fume cupboards (whether they are ducted, recirculating or filtered)
Fume extract arms and hoods
Microbiological safety cabinets
Dust extract systems for woodworking
Fume extraction systems for metalworking
Laser cutters fume extraction
Solder extract fume extraction
And chemical storerooms.
Our LEV testing services involve checking that the system is working effectively, but replacing any parts which are showing signs of weakness or wear and tear, such as air filters, motors and drive belts. If any system looks like it is uneconomical to repair, then we can commission and install a new one, considering your needs, budget and the physical limitations of your classroom space.
Whether you schedule our visit during holidays or term-time, we will always look to minimise the amount of disruption caused. If we do identify any issues with your system, we will look to repair them on the spot rather than come back on a separate occasion. We also provide free copies of all our reports, and we send you reminders when your next test is due.
